OWNERSHIP AT WORK

Join me on March 27, 2024 12pm-1pm EST by Zoom.

Workplaces with high levels of ownership tend to be truly effective and fulfilling places to work. But is willingness to take ownership an individual characteristic, or is it influenced by workplace culture? How do we get more of it in our organization?

Join me to explore these questions using concrete examples from organizations I've worked with. Specifically, you’ll learn about:

  1. The two essential ingredients to cultivate ownership

  2. How to assess your organization's "ownership culture"

  3. Concrete actions you might take to improve the conditions for ownership at your workplace

This one hour introduction is aimed primarily at managers and leaders in the non-profit and government sectors, but others are welcome. It's a really interesting topic to unpack, if you ask me! I'll be drawing on Peter Block, Peter Koestenbaum, Barry Johnson, and (how could I not?) Edgar Schein.

Hope to see you there!

What is “ownership”?

In Peter Koestenbaum and Peter Block’s book “Freedom and Accountability at Work”, they define ownership as “taking responsibility for the results of our actions, even if we are not solely responsible for those results.”

In this workshop, I combine the fantastic insights from Dr Koestenbaum and Dr Block with Polarity Thinking (developed by Dr Barry Johnson and many others) and Dr Edgar Schein’s Three Level Culture Model.

This introductory workshop is only 60 minutes, but I’ll share a clear and nuanced view of ownership at work, and how to get more of it.
